Maintenance breeding

Maintenance breeding aims in particular to preserve all the characteristics of a variety over time (thereby preventing any genetic drift). The team dedicated to conservation breeding is therefore responsible for carrying out purification operations in the seed multiplication fields for inbred lines.
However, one of its primary responsibilities is to ensure full compliance with the DUS criteria when a candidate variety is submitted for official registration (the candidate variety must be Distinct, Uniform and Stable even before demonstrating its agronomic value in the so-called Agronomic, Technological and Environmental Values trials).
